HISTORY
Stone Lake was described as a “Boom Town” in the early 1900s. With the Soo Line railroad being built from Chicago to Superior, the town of Stone Lake sprang up around the railroad camp. It’s hard to believe that Stone Lake once supported four general stores, an Opera House, a livery stable, two automotive dealerships, a shoe store, barber Shop and hotel!
The old lumber building is probably the oldest building in Stone Lake. The original general store on the Home and Hardware site was built in 1913. It burned down in the late thirties, but was immediately rebuilt on the same spot. Evolution … some of the names involved – W. A. In 2015, Paul Manka and Mike Bogenschneider saw the opportunity that Stone Lake Lumber could offer if they focused on customer service, good prices, and quality products. They wanted to keep the history of the lumber yard, while updating the company. They add many new features, products, and employees. One of the biggest changes was the purchase of the old Stone Lake Bank, which has been converted into a showroom that offers everything from flooring and kitchens to siding and everything in between.
In 2018 Paul and Mike purchased Stone Lake Hardware Store, which had been part of the Lumber Company in years past. After a few months of complete renovation, they opened the new Stone Lake Paint & Hardware, offering over 5,000 sf of products.
